Visiting The Doctor

Today we went to the doctor's office to get checked to see if we had any sicknesses. When we had been checked, it turned out that we had strep throat. After we had gotten checked, we went to pick up our subscriptions. When we got to the pharmacy, we realized that we still had some time left to wait, so we went to a nearby video game store to look at video games. We ended up buying 2 video games for a good price before heading back to the pharmacy and getting our subscriptions. Then, we headed home, took our medicine, and had lunch. That's all for today so, good-bye!!! :-)

A Thanksgiving Story

(written by Jacob P. McKinnis)

As John looked at his calendar, he noticed that Thanksgiving was only 3 days away. As John watched some friends play, he thought, “With Thanksgiving coming up, what do I have to be thankful for? Nothing.”

“Honey, it’s time for dinner!"

As John descended the stairs, he sniffed the air.

“Ah, Tortellini Alfredo.”

As John was munching his way through his second helping, his mom said, “Jackson called today.”

“What did he call about?”

“He’s coming to visit tomorrow.”

John nearly choked on a tortellini.

“What??” He exclaimed.

But before John could say anything, his mother cut him off. “So your room should be cleaned. It’s a mess.”

After dinner, John trudged up the stairs and started cleaning his room. As he cleaned, John’s thoughts flew back to The Divorce. His mom and Jackson had fought many times, until they had finally gone to court. Then, his father had driven away. Since then, the only times he had seen Jackson was when his father had come to visit.

As John put the last book on the bookshelf, he yawned. Then, he climbed into bed and fell asleep.

The next morning, John woke up to the sound of his alarm. After he groggily got out of bed, he stumbled down stairs and wolfed down his breakfast. Then, John went out to the bus stop, and got on the bus.

Later, as John sat down with his lunch tray, he saw a new boy, who sat at an empty table, all alone. John decided to ask what the boy’s name was. When he did, the boy answered, “My name is Jack. What’s your name?”

“My name is John.”

“Thanks for sitting next to me.”

“You’re welcome.”

“You want to be friends?”

“Uh…sure!”

Just then, the recess bell rang and the two friends went outside to play together.

That night, as John, his mom, and Jackson sat down for dinner, John told his mother and divorced father about Jack and how he met him. By the time he had finished, John had cleared away the last dish. Then, John went upstairs and went to sleep.

The next morning, John got up early and decided to take a walk. As he headed down Washington Boulevard, he spotted a young black lab. It was thin and its fur was matted. As he walked past it, the lab looked at him with sad eyes. John noticed that it didn’t have a collar. Then, he noticed what time it was on his watch and John raced home.

When John got home, he noticed that the dog had followed him. He was just about to shoo it off when his mom came out. Making his mind up, John asked, “Can I keep him, mom?”

“Yes, you may keep him.”

“Thanks mom!”

Just then, the bus came, and a beaming John got on.

Later that day, John told Jack about his new dog.

“What are you going to call him?”

“I don’t know.”

“How about ‘licorice’ or something involving the color black? I know, how about Midnight?”

“Good idea! I’ll call my dog Midnight.”

Then, the recess bell rang and they went outside to play.

When he got home from school that day, John looked at the calendar and noticed that Thanksgiving was the next day. Then, Midnight came over to John and he remembered the last time he had looked at his calendar. As he thought over the last 2 days, he realized that he really did have a lot to be thankful for after all.

Then, his mom called, “Time to eat, Honey,” and John replied, “Coming mom!”
